He was born May 31, 1928, in the Town of Benson, North Carolina, to the late Carlson and Ida Morgan. Jim served in the Air Force, during the Korean War and met and married the late Mary Elizabeth Morgan while stationed at Fort Meyer. The couple remained in Arlington for over 40 years, raising their two sons. Both licensed hair dressers, they owned, managed and operated several salons in Northern Virginia, including Heads-Up Hair Design of Arlington. The couple while vacationing in the Northern Neck purchased their eventual retirement home in Warsaw, Virginia where they remained for over 30 years. Jim was an active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, and Brotherhood director, the American Legion Post, and the Warsaw Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post.
Jim is survived by his two sons, James P. Morgan and wife Cindy (Alexandria, VA); Jay P. Morgan and wife Pam (Annandale, VA); five grandchildren, Heather and James (Phillip) Morgan (Alexandria, VA) and Austin, Trevor and Conner Morgan (Annandale, VA); two sisters, Margaret Lee (Four Oaks, NC) and Marlene Creech (Raleigh, NC). He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives as well as many friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary and one brother, Curtis.
Funeral services for James A. (Jim) Morgan will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 27th, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 8800 Historyland Highway, Warsaw, VA. The Rev. Kenny Park, pastor, will officiate. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel, on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church, on Friday, one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will include James Phillip Morgan, Austin Morgan, Trevor Morgan, Connor Morgan, Don Lee, Richard Lee and Brian Lee Vanlandingham.
