September 1st, 1894, Isaac and his wife, Ida Porath Tawney, along with their children, perished in the Great Fire of Wisconsin (Just 10 ½ months after Isaac's last marriage). The family of Isaac Tawney had no where to run.

The charred bodies of Isaac Tawney, Mrs. Tawney, Elisha, Willie &, Jessie Tawney as well as (Isaac's daughter and husband) Frank and Maggie Bargrin and Walter Grant were taken to Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin on September 1st, 1894 for burial. (Interned in the pauper section of Ashland Cemetery)
