Cornelius W. Graham was born in Bolivar, Virginia, before it became West Virginia. He was the son of an Armorer at the Armory in Harpers Ferry. When the Civil War broke out, the family moved North. They lived in several places in the 1860s-1870s, including Trenton, NJ, Springfield, MA, Providence, RI, and Bridgeport, CT. 1880 found Cornelius W. Graham living with his bride, Harriet L. (maiden name unknown)Graham. She was born in Vermont to parents born in Vermont. They were both working at a cartridge factory. In 1885, Cornelius was the manager of an ice rink. His burial records at Lakeview Cemetery note his ashes buried there. The cemetery director was perplexed by this.

Bridgeport Death Records stated that Cornelius died from uremic poisoning from Typhoid Fever. He was 33 years, three months, and 12 days old at the time of his death. The record also confirmed his parents and stated that he was a mechanic.

Harriet L. Graham remained his widow and remained in Bridgeport through 1906. After this time, she remarried.
