MRS. MARY MARTIN PASSES AWAY
We regret to announce the death of Mrs. Mary A. Martin which sad event occurred in this city on last Wednesday night. The end came at the home of her son, Mr. H. A. W. Martin, where she lived for some years past.
Mrs. Martin was perhaps the oldest person in the county at the time of her death, being in her 95th year. She was born in this county January 29th 1829, being a daughter of the late Wm Henry Martin, who departed this life some sixty eight years ago.
Mrs. Martin was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and as long as she was able was true to her church obligations. She was converted at a camp meeting when a young girl and was ever faithful to her Master.
Mrs. Martin divided her time-between her sons, Mr. H. A. W. Martin and Mr. W. E. Martin, either place being home to her and where she was much beloved and given the best of attention and care. This good woman often related some interesting incidents that took place in her early life and it was a great pleasure to sit and hear her talk of the early incidents.
The funeral took place at the old Claybank Church a mile from town Friday morning, a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends attending the same. The funeral services were held in the old Church where the deceased had worshiped her Master many times. Rev. Jno. W. Budd, her pastor had charge of the services and paid a beautiful tribute to the life and Christian character of the deceased. Her remains were laid to rest among loved ones at old Claybank to await the Resurrection Morning.
To the bereaved relatives the Star tenders its deepest sympathy in this their great sorrow and bereavement.
