Neil Spencer Bishop died peacefully at home September 11, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born of good parents May 22, 1924 to Mary Eda Farnsworth and William Heber Bishop in Delta Utah. Graduated from Delta High School in 1942. Joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II in the South Pacific and was involved in the Battle of Okinawa. Neil was honorably discharged in April of 1946. He was proud to serve his country. He married Golda Justet October 17, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. His wife preceded him in death in March of 1999. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings. Neil was most proud of his wife and family, his membership and dedication to his church, and his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Neil spent numerous hours in community service with organizations such as the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Elks Lodge where he served as Exalted Ruler. Neil proudly served the people of the State of Utah as a member of the Utah Highway Patrol. After 23 years of dedicated service he retired at the rank of Captain. He is survived by his sons, Douglas N. (Robyn) Bishop of Washington City, Scott (Gail) Bishop of Cedar City; and daughter, Linda B. (Chris) Petty of Cedar City; son-in-law, Richard L. Rounds; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Neva B. Memmott. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Golda; and daughter, Marlys B. Rounds; his brothers, Harold F. Bishop, William (Van) Vane Bishop, Franklin H. Bishop, William (Bill) H. Bishop; and sister, Ella B. Christensen. Funeral services held on Thursday, September 16, 2004, at the Cedar City Rock Church. Interment in the Cedar City Cemetery.
