Stanley Choma, 85, of Swoyersville, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, July 27, 2010, at his residence. Born on June 11, 1925, in Lemberg, Poland, Stanley was a son of the late John and Catherine Rapp Choma. The Choma Family immigrated to the United States when Stanley was 13 years of age. He was raised in Swoyersville and had resided there most of his life. Stanley had attended the former Swoyersville High School. He later went on to further his education at the former Williamsport Technical Institute, receiving his diploma in mechanical drafting. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Stanley honorably served his country during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge on March 2, 1943, Stanley had attained the rank of Private. Prior to his retirement, Stanley was employed for 24 years by the Ingersoll-Rand Co., located in Painted Post, N.Y. In his earlier years, Stanley was employed by the former Royer Foundry and Machine Co., located in Kingston, and also for Sordoni Construction Co., located in Swoyersville. Stanley was a member of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville. A proud veteran, Stanley was a member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville, where he served as Commander during the years of 1998 and 1999. Stanley was very faithful and dedicated to the American Legion and also to all veterans who honorably served our country. In addition to his parents, John and Catherine Choma, Stanley was also preceded in death by his brother, John Choma, who passed away in 1997. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Panachida service, which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at his graveside in the Denison Cemetery, 85 Denison St., Swoyersville. Full Military Honors will be accorded immediately following the Panachida service. There will be no public calling hours.
