BLUE SPRINGS - Herman Wayne Payton, 73, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County. He was born June 8, 1939, to Homer and Cardia Rutherford Payton in New Albany.
Service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beaver Dam Church. Burial is at Jamison Grove Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two grandchildren, Letonia Brown of New Albany and Kenneth Wayne Brown of Fory Campbell, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Octavious Rutherford, Christopher Brown, Edna Turnage and Truth Brown; one brother, Noverta Payton (Jessie) of Peoria; tow sisters, Joyce Shannon of Nashville, Tenn., and Dr. Marinelle Payton of Jackson; his companion of 30 years, Mary Freeman; her son, William Freeman; and her grandchildren, William II, Alexis and Christopher Freeman and Brianna Desir.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Hamer Payton Shannon; brother, O'Neal Payton; and his daughters, Edwina Brown and Kim Payton.
Pallbearers will be his friends.
Visitation is 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Serenity Chapel.
