Kathlyn W. R. Friend, 67, died Saturday, July 28, 2012. She was born May 2, 1945 in Nicholasville, KY to the late Woodrow Wilson and Mary Ruth House Friend. She was a farmer, attorney, member of 1st United Methodist Church in Richmond and Society of Boonesborough. She loved to farm, her animals, science, coffee and politics. Survivors are three children, Kathleen (Kevin) Ebrahimi, John (Mira) Friend, James Woodrow Friend, two grandchildren, Julia Ebrahimi, Dylan Friend, one brother, Woodrow (Patricia) Friend, her dog Peppy and other family members. Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Roberts Chapel in Jessamine County with Rev. John Gillispie officiating. Burial will follow in House Family Cemetery.

Kathlyn Friend, 67, a Richmond attorney struck by lightning Thursday night, died Saturday afternoon at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Woody Friend said his sister died after being removed from life support. She had been in critical condition since being injured.

Kathlyn Friend was struck about 6:30 p.m. Thursday while she was installing a watering system for cattle on a farm she owned in southern Jessamine County. Woody Friend said his sister and her son, who was helping her, had one section of pipe left to put in place she was struck.

Kathlyn Friend, a longtime attorney, ran for a seat on the Kentucky Court of Appeals in 1983 and 1991 but was defeated both times by Paul D. Gudgel of Lexington.
