Eli, born at Middletown (now Middlefield), CT, Apr. 11, 1758, passed his life in farming in his native town where he is listed in the US Census of 1790 as head of a family with one male over sixteen years, three males under sixteen years, and three females. For many years be held a commission as justice of the peace, and for thirteen years served as selectman of Middletown. He died Mar. 27, 1835.

He married about 1778, Rachel Miller, daughter of Dea. Icbabod and Elizabeth (Cornwell) Miller of Middletown, CT. and they had seven children:
1. Bela Coe (1778 - 1841)
2. Lucy Coe (1780 - 1863)
3. Rachel Coe (1782 - 1826)
4. Eli Coe (1784 - 1847)
5. Son Coe (1787 - 1787)
6. Levi Coe (1788 - 1864)
7. Child Coe ( - 1798)
