Norman P Watts, 72. died Wednesday. April 29, 1992, at his home in Hamilton, Kansas. A lifetime resident of Greenwood county, he was born July 13, 1919, in Quincy Township, the son of Ralva William and Winnie Edith (Sherman) Watts. He attended No. 9 Grade School and was a graduate of Quincy High School, class of 1938.
Mr. Watts spent his lifetime in the Quincy and Hamilton area, first working in the oil fields. In December 1967 he began working at Didde Corporation in Emporia as an electroplater and continued until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping, and was a project lead in a 4-H club.
He was married to Mary Pauline Grider on June 18, 1939, at Virgil. She died January 25, 1984. To this union were born six surviving children. They and their families are: Daniel D. Watts and his wife Vera of Madison and their children, Nathaniel and Dyane and stepsons, Willian and Ryan King; Patricia K. Hays and her husband Junior of Madison and their children, Delinda Barger and her husband Travis of Fort Devens. Massachusetts, Michael L. Hays nd his wife Marty of Emporia and grandchildren, Joel and Sarah Barger and Saundra and Michael Hays; Leta E. Harrell and her husband William of Hamilton; Tony Watts and his wife Patricia Ann of Madison and their children Mark Watts and Sue Stafford of Emporia, Kelly and Sean Stafford. Matthew of Hartford, stepchildren, Linda Poole and her husband Mark of Oklahoma, David Barb and wife Lisa of Minnesota and Terry Worley of Emporia, grandchildren Robert, Patricia and Stephen Poole, Rachelle, James and Tisha Barb, and Daniel, Michael and Chris Worley; Jacqulin Lea Pierce and her husband Dayton of Sublette, Kansas; children, Rebeckah Axtell and her husband Matthew and Michelle Pierce of Dodge City, and Galen Watts of Emporia, and his children, Hope, Misty and Heather Watts.
Mr. Watts was married to Pearl E. Boby-Hawkins on November 23, 1985. at Eureka. She survives at the home. Surviving stepchildren include Janice Ashley and her husband Sherman of Hutchinson and their children Steve Ashley and his wife Paige and chidren Brian and Taylor of Topeka.
Jerry Bobey and his wife Linda of Carbondale, KS and thier children, Angela Bobey of Topeka, KS.; Matthew Bobey of Lawrence, KS; Troy Shaffer of Manhattan, KS; and Tara and Lyndsey Shaffer of Carbondale, KS.
James Bobey and his wife Carol of Eureka, KS and their sons Michael and Mark Bobey of Eureka.
He is also survived by a sister Mary Schlotterbeck of Chanute; two aunts, Mrs. Dona M. Sherman and Mrs. Hallie Crouch, both of Hamilton, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister.
Funeral services were held at the Hamilton Baptist Church on Saturday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend William Williams and Reverend Keith Morrow officiated. Interment was in the Watts Haven Cemetery near Quincy.
A memorial has been established in his name at the Hamilton Baptist Church. Contributions may be sent to the church or the Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home in Eureka which was in charge of arrangement.
