Margaret M. Galpin, age 92, of Parkersburg, was born May 27, 1920, in Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Tena (Haan) Behrends. They lived on a farm south of Aplington where she also attended rural country school.

On May 2, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harry E. Galpin in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple lived in Waterloo for a short time then relocated to a farm south of Aplington and then moved to Parkersburg where she lived for 55 years. In June of 2005 she became a resident of The Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Besides being a mother and homemaker, she also worked at UNI for nineteen years until her retirement in 1983.

Margaret was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, sewing, crocheting, reading, her miniature schnauzers and watching the many birds that she enjoyed feeding. She was also an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball.

Margaret died Friday, July 27, 2012, at The Presbyterian Village in Ackley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Galpin; her parents; and her brother, Vernon Behrends.

Margaret is survived by her three sons, Gary Galpin of St. Paul, Minnesota, Keith (Connie) Galpin of Ackley, Iowa, Jim (Debra) Galpin of Denver, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jeff (Susie) Galpin, Joshua (Jill) Galpin, Jared (Gina) Galpin, Erin (Shawn) Anfinson and Kelli Galpin; five great-grandchildren, Bailey and Kennedy Galpin, Emma and Griffin Galpin, and Elliot Anfinson; special family friend, Bruce Halverson.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Bethel Lutheran Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, (319)346-1534 and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
