Esther was born to Benjamin Franklin Alward and Sarah Ayers Alward, a twin to her sister Sarah. They were the first of two sets of twins among the 13 siblings. She married Stephen A. Lawrence in 1808 and he died in 1833, leaving her a widow with a brand new baby who was born after her father's death, and an 11 year old son, plus several of her adult children living with her. Her sons William and John are already living in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois when she moves there in the 1850s. Her daughter Mary and husband Stephen Coleman had also moved there and she lives out the rest of her life with them.
She is probably buried in Greenwood Cemetery where many other family members are buried but it has not been confirmed as of this writing June 22, 2013.
