Mr. Bennett was born in Camborne, Cornwall, England on July 6, 1822. He was married to the former Miss Mary Berryman. They had 4 children (Martha J, Edith, Joseph, and Flora). He was the chairman of the town of Dodgeville in 1860 and served as President of the village for five years. He served in the Wisconsin Legislature in 1876.
