I also found information on a Kenneth E. Howe which sounds very much like this man, but the death date is July 23, 1945 (Italy). It states that he was awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star, and Purple Heart. I have also included that link. Quite possibly the same person, but I can't say for sure. Just thought I would pass the information on:
