Sam Altena, 86, of Sioux Center died Friday, January 8, 1988 in a hospital at Sioux Center.
Services were held Monday, January 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.
Mr. Altena was born Jan. 23, 1901, at Morris (???) and lived in the Sioux Center area most of his life. He married Grace Heynen Feb. 25, 1925, in Sioux Center. Mr. Altena was a charter member of Belhel Christian Reformed Church and served as a deacon and an elder.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Senard of Mesa, Ariz., Wilmer of Rock Valley, Wayne of Ireton, and Stanley and Marlin, both of Sioux Center; a daughter, Mrs. Mario "Doc" (Julie) Zeutenhorst of Sioux Center; a sister, Mrs. Tony (Fannie) De Boom of Sioux Center, 22 grandchildren and 27 greatgrandchildren.
