Newspaper Obituary Service Held for Mary E. McCabe Pioneer Resident-Had Reached the advanced age of nearly 92 years-
Mary E. McCabe, a well known resident of Williamsburg, passed away at her home Tuesday evening January 18, after a lingering illness. She would have been 92 years old on Feb. 2. She had been a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The funeral services in charge of Rev. J.J. Gaule were held at 10 o'clock Friday at St Mary's church and the interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons; Glenn McCabe, Edward McCabe, Tom McCabe, James T. McCabe, Ralph Lenz, and James Meade.
Mary E. McCabe was born February 2, 1857 in Johnson County near Tiffin, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Reynolds. She was married to James McCabe at St. Micheals's church at Holbrook, Feb. 28, 1876.
The home was established in York township, the family moving to Williamsburg in the spring of 1886. To this union were born seven children.
Preceding her in death were her husband, who passed away Sept. 1, 1931, one child in infancy, a daughter, Katherine Humphrey, and a son Dr. Thomas J. McCabe.
Those left to mourn are: Dr. J. F. McCabe, Ann McCabe, Mrs. John W. Donohoe and Dr. J.C. McCabe all of Williamsburg, one sister Miss Teresa Reynolds of Iowa City and 21 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
Mrs. McCabe was a most exemplary woman and as a wife and mother, friend and neighbor she fully merited lasting esteem in which she had always been held.
