OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)

Sherman D. Gressley, 90, formerly of rural Lagro, Indiana, died at 1:05 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Wabash, where he had resided since May of 1999. He was born September 6, 1921 in Huntington County, Indiana, to Henry and Lena (Copeland) Gressley.

Sherman married Nora Rebecca Bone in Columbus, Oklahoma, on April 4, 1946; she died May 13, 1995. He was a World War II US Army veteran. He was a self-employed salvage operator and also did plumbing and heating work. He was a lifetime member of the Lagro American Legion, and a member of the Wabash Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, old cars, the river, talking with his friends, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by three children, Jessie (Mary) Gressley, Lena (William) Gray, and Bernice Gressley, all of rural Lagro; two sisters, Betty Treska of Lagro, and Bernice M. Simpson Meek of Wabash; brother, Ival L. Gressley of Peru, Indiana; six grandchildren, Sherman (Katy) Gray, and Jessie Gray, both of Wabash, Tony Gressley, and Dawn Gressley, both of Lagro, Angelena (Eric) Ryggs of Wabash, and Jake (Heather) Gressley of Huntington, Indiana; three great grandchildren, Hank Gray, Evelynn Gray, and Charissa Gressley. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kurt Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Murphy Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-6 p.m., Sunday, July 29 at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center Activity Department.
