Stone quarry president Albert Hoadley dies at 94
Albert T. Hoadley, president and owner of the Hoadley-Sare Stone Quarry and Mill, died Sunday at his Bloomington residence. He was 94.
Hoadley was among family members who had been in the limestone industry for more than five generations.
The Wrigley Building in Chicago, the Flager Museum in Palm Beach, Fla., and the Lincoln Memorial State Park near Gentryville, all were constructed with Hoadley limestone from the Hoadley quarry.
Active in civic affairs, Hoadley served on the Bloomington parks board, was instrumental in the development of the Cascades Golf Course, was a former member of the Monroe County Public Library board and served as a Boy Scout leader when Camp Wapahani was founded.
Hoadley was the eldest member of the Bloomington Rotary Club, of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and the eldest member of the Elks Lodge 446. He was a charter member of the Bloomington Country Club, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Born Aug. 29, 1903, in Illinois, he was the son of John W. and Dovie (Figg) Hoadley. Hoadley went on to graduate in 1925 from Indiana University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Gentry (Gant) Hoadley; one daughter, Virginia Tyte of Bloomington; one son, Thomas A. Hoadley, a former Monroe County prosecutor, of Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one grandson.
