Born in Arden, N.C., Mr. Edwards had retired as an electrician from Best Repair Company after 20 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Fourth Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and Fleet Reserve Association, Branch (NU)257.
Survivors include his wife, Annie M. Edwards; a son, John W. Edwards Jr. of Baltimore; a brother, Almond Edwards of Miami; a grandchild, John T. Edwards of Baltimore; a daughter-in-law, Renee S. Edwards of Baltimore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Fourth Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles W. Beamon. Burial, with military honors, will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
