Walter N. Bertler, 71, of 1411 North 5th Street, Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning, August 14, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Rev. William Zimmer. Rev. John Blaha, and Rev. James Kendzieski O.F.M. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Bertler was born December 6, 1913, at Manitowoc, son of the late George and Johanna Engeldinger Bertler. He grew up in Manitowoc, attending local schools. Mr. Bertler owned and operated Bertler Flooring in Manitowoc for a number of years, later working for Holy Family Hospital and then part-time for Prange-Way Department Store, retiring in 1984. He married Esther T. Becker on November 23, 1940, at Manitowoc. Mr. Bertler was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of Eagles Aerie No. 706 for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Pamela Bertler of Suamico, Wisconsin, Roger and Sharon Bertler of Mosinee, Wisconsin, and Allan and Marlene Bertler of Manitowoc; three brothers, Raymond Bertler of Florida, Donald Bertler of Ohio, and Dr. Eugene Bertler of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Imelda Gruber of Green Bay and Mrs. Marie Canon of Manitowoc; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick J. Bertler, three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Pfeffer and Reinbold 9th Street Chapel, 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
