GUNDER BENSON
EX-POLICEMAN OF CITY DEAD AT CHICAGO
Gunder Benson, former Manitowoc policeman, died at his home at Chicago Monday
following a short illness due to infirmities incident to old age. The body will
be brought to this city Wednesday night and the funeral will be held Thursday
afternoon. Complete arrangements have not been made but will be announced
tomorrow.
Gunder Benson was born in Norway and was married to that country before coming
to the state some 40 years ago. He settled in this city and for a number of
years was identified with various industries. In 1892 he received an appointment
to the police force and for 10 years was active position (sic) to go to Chicago,
where he (sic) duty on the force and resigned his (sic) has since made his home
with his daughter, Miss Lena Benson. The death of Mr. Benson leaves but two men
on the local force who served at the time Jerome Pierce was chief here, Chief
Anton Trochell and Capt. Charles Dueno, all the others having answered the final
summons.
During the last few years Mr. Benson had led a retired life. Besides the daughter
with whom he made his home, he is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. Fay Wilson
of Walworth Wis., and one son, Ben Benson of Chicago. Two sisters in Norway also
survive him.
