Mr. George Washington Burroughs, 89, of 722 Grandin Ave., Rockville, died Monday, Feb. 21, at Holly Cross Hospital, Silver Spring. He waq the husband of the late Katherine L. Higdon Burroughs.

Born Sept. 29, 1893, in Potomad, Mr. Burrough was a son of the late Lum and Edna A. Good Burroughs.

Mr. Burroughs was a member of the Potomac United Methodist Church, Potomac, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He had been employed for 20 years as a carpenter for the U.S. Naval Air Station Indianhead, until his reirement in 1963.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Martha A. Miller of Ocala, Fla., George W. Burroughs Jr. of San Marcos, Texas, and Mrs. Edna A. Shultz, Rockville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Rowens, Rockville; a brother, Edward Burroughs, Gaithersburg and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burroughs is at the Frederick Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey & Son, PA, 1201 N. Market St., where friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis E. Yocum, Lewistown United ethodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, near Frederick.
