He was born August 27, 1931 in Red Bank, NJ. He lived in Long Branch , NJ , Eatontown , NJ and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1994.
He worked for The Monogram Company for 37 years. He also owned and operated Bob's Luncheonette in Lavallette , NJ . Additionally, he was employed by the Monmouth County Park System at Shark River Golf Course as a Ranger and Dodgertown Golf Course in Vero Beach , owned by the Los Angles Dodgers.
He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Stribling DD867, January 9, 1951 to November 1954. He received six campaign ribbons and a letter of Accommodation from the Captain during a collision at Sea, Mid Atlantic, during refueling in heavy seas.
He was a member of The Elberon Engine Co. 4 of the Long Branch Fire Department and a life member of the Firemen's Association.
Survivors include his wife Marie Flaherty Hesslein of Vero Beach, FL; two sons Robert of Red Bank, NJ Stephen of Tinton Falls, NJ and daughter Judi Camp of Tinton Falls, NJ; brother Nathan Hesslein of Toms River and sister Joyce Looney of Maywood, NJ; five grandchildren Daniel, Stephany, Dara, and Jordan Hesslein, and Brian Camp. Also four step-daughters Marie Martens of Vernon, NJ, Gina Pennington of Butler, NJ; Eileen Corallo of Mahwah, NJ and Virginia Gibbons of Bloomingdale,NJ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice House at 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
