Salena B. Smith, age 89, a resident of Pottsville, AR, daughter of the late Robert L. and Alice B. Wilson, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 65 years, Cecil G. Smith, one brother, E.H. Wilson of Appleton, and one sister, Elsie Hood of Santa Monica, California.
She is survived by one daughter, Christina Ferguson of Pottsville, and one son, LeMoyne Smith of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Jennifer Short of Kobe, Japan, Cecilia Dotson of Berryville, Dr. Loretta Ferguson Cochran of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Philip Ferguson, a senior of UAMS, Little Rock; four great grandchildren, Christen, Courtney, and Austin Dotson of Berryville, Arkansas and Emily Short of Kobe, Japan.
Salena Smith was a member of the Pottsville A.R. Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, an active member of the church choir for many years, and a regular participant in the women's quilting group. She was an avid flower gardener and a wonderful cook whose skills in the kitchen brought many smiles not only to her family but also to numerous church dinner attendees.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pottsville A.R. Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ed Fleagle officiating, assisted by the Rev. Thomas Morris, Sr. and the Rev. James Ragsdale. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville.
