Matthew "Mac" Whitehorse, 94 of Anadarko was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his home. He was born October 14, 1917 to Charley Whitehorse and Laura Pau-Kau-Sah in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He married the love of his life Lucille Otis in 1940 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. He was proud to be a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma serving as Kiowa Tribal Director for twelve years. When the US government stopped society dancing the O-ho-mah Society kept on dancing and Mac was keeper of the O-ho-mah Bustle for sixty years. At the time of his death he was known to be the oldest Kiowa Elder. He was Honorary Grandpa for the Wichita Little Sisters. His greatest love was for his family. He especially loved spoiling the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by seven daughters, Rowena M. Ware, Luana J. Clark and the late Gary Clark, Beryl G. Kaulaity, Maxine Komah and Richard, Patricia Redbone and husband, Donny, Donna Jean Tsatoke and Joyce Vineyard. Twenty Six grandchildren, forty four great grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy DeLaune, Florence Whitehorse Taylor and Anna Sue Whitehorse Nimsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Laura Whitehorse, four daughters, Karen Whitehorse, Letitia Whitehorse, RoSharon Archilta, Ethel Pennah Subieta, sisters and brothers, Martha Doyeto, Mary Doyeto, Albert Whitehorse, Thomas Whitehorse, Peter Whitehorse, May Whitehorse, Louise Hall, Lucy Beaver, Daisey Haumpy, Roland Noah Whitehorse and Claude Blackie Whitehorse.
Prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 27, 2012 at Smith Chapel. Service 10:00 A. M., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Smith Chapel officiating will be Rev. Lonnie Emhoolah from the Native American Church. Burial will be at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
