Warren Henry (Bill) Tobin was born in July 1831 in Kentucky to John Tobin and Eliza McNealy Tobin natives of Kentucky. The Tobin family moved to Platte County, Missouri, and as an adventuresome young man, Warren Tobin crossed the plains with ox teams to Hangtown, California where he engaged in gold mining there, as well as at Ash Hollow and Soda Springs.
In 1861 he traveled to the mining district of Florence in northern Idaho. He then relocated to Eagle Valley and became a miner and early settler taking out a homestead along Eagle Creek, farming and raising livestock. The Tobin ditch in Eagle Valley was named for W.H. Tobin.
On January 2,1883 Warren (Bill) Tobin and Mary Gale, daughter of Oregon Provisional Governor, Joseph Gale (1843-1844) and his wife Eliza, a daughter of Nez Perce Old Chief Joseph, were married at the home of Mary's sister, Clara Gale at New Bridge.
After his marriage "Bill" Tobin and his wife, Mary pursued his interests in mining and prospected for gold on Snake River at Connor Creek and Sturgill Bar with good success as well as farmed and raised stock on his homestead.
Tobin was known in the community as "Uncle Bill", and was regarded as a friend and neighbor, a man of ability and staunch principles, honorable and true.
Tobin's wife Mary Gale Tobin passed away on January 29, 1894 of diphtheria at New Bridge. Warren H Tobin continued to work his mines until his death on January 28, 1919 at Robinette, Oregon.
Warren H Tobin was laid to rest beside his wife, Mary Gale Tobin in the Eagle Valley Cemetery.
He was survived by a brother, Winfield Scott Tobin of Union, Oregon, nieces and nephews in Union County Oregon, and relatives in Missouri.
