Mary Pentecost Burkett

MANY, LA - Mary Pentecost Burkett, 83, of Many, Louisiana went home to be with Jesus on July 23rd, 2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She is now with Her Lord, reunited with the "Pentecost Clan" making eternal memories, singing and worshipping in heaven, free of pain and suffering.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 25th, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA. The Celebration of Life will be Thursday, July 26th at 2:00pm, First Baptist Church, Many, LA. Reverend Lee Dixon will be the officiating minister, assisted by Rev. Randy Graham and Rev. Bill Hines.

Mary was born July 24th, 1929, in Mount Carmel, Louisiana to John W and Josie Pentecost. She was the youngest of 8 children, and the last of her family to leave this world. At age 18 she discovered what would soon become her life's passion - teaching school. Two years later she married Billy Burkett, and started her new role as a pastor's wife. As her teaching years progressed, the next chapter of her life came when God blessed her with 3 beautiful children: Mike, Don and Lisa. However, her gift of teaching continued as she taught for over 25 years in both private and public schools. During that time she also served her community and church in many areas - as a Social Worker, Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader, Choir Member, and other countless areas of service.

As Mary's life continued, she taught far more than just school. As a Godly wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all, she communicated Jesus more through her actions and words far more than any book would show. Her unfailing, relentless, and never failing love for all was what she taught best. One wouldn't finish a conversation with her without hearing about her husband, children, or even great-grandchildren. Her greatest love, Jesus Christ, was evident in every area of her life.

Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Reverend Billy M. Burkett, sister-in-law Elaine Burkett of Pollock, LA, her 3 children Dr. Michael Burkett and wife Sue of Irving, TX, District Attorney Don Burkett and wife Virginia of Many, LA, Lisa Graham and husband Rev. Randy Graham of Anchorage, AK, 5 grandchildren Garrett Burkett and wife Rachel, Steven Van Sickle and wife Mary Beth, Jeremy Graham, Cody Graham, and Caleb Burkett, and 4 great-grandchildren Jayven, Elliana, Fayth, and Griffin.
