LEVANT - Guyla Goodwin, 83, wife of the late Chalmers Goodwin, died Sept. 17, 1999, at a local health-care facility. Guyla was born Aug. 11, 1916, the daughter of Chester and Myrtle (Moody) Byers. Guyla enjoyed horses and gardening. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, making family her life. She is survived by her children from her first husband, Thayne Hodgdon; two sons, C. Thayne Hodgdon nd his wife, Pat of Minot, Leonard Hodgdon and his wife, Barbara of New York; daughter, Thaila Berry and her husband, Charles of Corinth; the children from her second husband, Chalmers Goodwin; son, Chalmers G. Goodwin of New York; daughters, Guyla Eaton and her husband, Richard of Levant, Gail Bagley of Newport; and Faith Chase and her husband, Andy of Brewer; 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two sisters, June Trott of Lincoln and Lillian Brown of Brewer; one brother, Chester Byers of Germany. She was predeceased by one sister, one brother and one granddaughter. Friends may call 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held Monday, at a time to be announced. Interment will follow at Waugh Cemetery, Levan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Affiliate, P.O. Box 2208, Augusta 04338 or to Muscular Dystrophy Association, Inc. State of Maine Chapter, 222 Auburn St., Portland 04103, Brewer.
