William R. Butler, 97, of South Charleston died May 19, 2002, in St. Francis Hospital after a short illness. He was born at Tophet, Mercer County, and was the son of the late Rufus P. and Mary Vene Ryan Butler. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Della Richards Butler; his second wife, Prible Butler; son, Gene; brother, Hubert A. Butler; sisters, Reba Doyle and Lucille Hopkins; and niece, Shirley Doyle Duncan.
He was a retired carpenter, having worked for Carpenters Local 1207 and had also worked for several large projects including the Bluestone Dam and John Amos Power Plant. Mr. Butler took much pride and joy in his woodworking projects, particularly working with cedar. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, South Charlestonial wisidn, the South Charleston Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite bodies and Eastern Star.

Service will be 11 a.m Wednesday, May 22, at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. Marilyn Hedgpeth officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
