Mrs. Bayne Dies in Sleep
Mrs. Reed Taft Bayne, 68, (photo) a resident of the city many years,
died Friday morning in her sleep at Santa Barbara, Calif. She had
been ill over an extended period of time.
Mrs. Bayne was the widow of the late publisher of The Herald-Times.
Mr. Bayne died June 8, 1954.
Mrs. Bayne, the former Isabel Aileen Bennie, was born Nov. 25, 1893,
at Tingley, Iowa, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bennie.
She attended Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, where she was a music
major, studying piano and organ.
Active Musician
She was married to Reed Taft Bayne Aug. 8, 1918, at Creston, Iowa.
They established residence at Superior, Wis., moving to Duluth, Minn.,
in 1925 and to Manitowoc in 1931.
Mrs. Bayne was active in music circles at Manitowoc as accompanist and
soloist, was president of Monday Music Club, a member of the Past
Presidents Club, a charter member of Manitowoc County Civic Music Assn.
and a member of Missionary Society and Ladies Society of Frist Presbyterian
Church.
Funeral Services
Surviving Mrs. Bayne are a daughter, Mrs. Louis Fandrick, of the city;
a son, Robert Bayne, of Santa Barbara with whom she had made her home
since 1959; a sister, Mrs. John Pollitt, of Highland, Calif.; and five
grandchildren (Survivors omitted for privacy.)
Funeral services tentatively have been arranged for Tuesday afternoon
in Phipps Memorial Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Gervase
Zanotti will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
