Henry Baruth, 82, (photo) former county treaurer and retired farmer, died early
today at his home, 1201 South 15th street. He had been ill since January.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Leschke funeral home
and at 2 o'clock from the First German Evangelical Lutheran church. Interment
will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Baruth was born in Sheboygan county in 1855. His parents moved to a farm in
Manitowoc Rapids when he was a boy. He took up farming and 1880 married Miss
Fredericka Raether. They located on a farm in the township. Twenty-five years
ago he retired and moved to this city. During his residence in Manitowoc Rapids
he served several terms as town treaurer and for years was treasurer of the
Manitowoc Rapids Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance company.
After his removal to this city Mr. Baruth was nominated for county treasurer on
the Republican ticket. He was elected and served two terms four years. Since
finishing his second term Mr. Baruth has lived a retired life.
In June, 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Baruth observed their gold wedding anniversary at
their home here.
Survivors are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. John Schramm, Sargeant, Minn.,
Mrs. Fred Mueller and Mrs. Charles A. Tills, city; two sons, George and Reinhold
Baruth, city; brother, August, New York; 12 grandchildren and six
great-grand-children.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home and will be in charge of Edward L.
Kohls, funeral director.
