LOUIS BARTKE, PIONEER MASON OF CITY DIES
Louis A. Bartke, pioneer resident of the city, died at 9 o'clock
this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.D. Croll, St.
Claire street, following an illness of more than a year. Mr. Bartke
was stricken with a stoke of apoplexy on July 19, a year ago and
following the death of his wife six months ago, took up his home
with his daughter.

He came to this country and to Manitowoc while still a young man and
for years was engaged in the mason contracting business. Fifteen
years ago he retired from active business. Besides the daughter with
whom he made his home Mr. Bartke is survived by one other daughter,
Mrs. William Witt of this city and one son Edward, of Detroit, Mich.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Croll

HURT IN FALL FROM WAGON
Louis Bartke Sustains Injuries That Cost Him Much Suffering
Louis Bartke, an aged South side resident was severely injured by being thrown
from a wagon when the vehicle was rounding the corner at So. Thirteenth Street
and though no bones were broken, the injury is serious and causes Mr. Bartke
much suffering. Mr. Bartke was thrown from his seat backward and alighted on
his head, a deep gash being cut in the scalp. There is an injury to the chest
that has caused a large swelling and there may be internal hurts which will
prove serious. Mr. Bartke is well advanced in age and this fact makes the
accident the more serious and may retard his recovery.
