DEATH COMES TO FRANK BARTA
Came to Manitowoc Over a Half Century Ago
Death came to Frank Barta, 1023 Chicago street, at the home at 9 o'clock
last night, following a stroke which he suffered while at work about the
house Sunday morning. Until yesterday he had apparently been in perfect
health and the attack came without warning, death following in a few
hours. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the home at
2 o'clock, the Rev. F. P. Keicher of Chilton officiating and burial
will be at Evergreen.
Frank Barta was born in Bohemia December 13, 1850, and would have been
74 at his next birthday. He came to this county as a boy and served with
a crew of men that built the Union Pacific railway through Nebraska. He
then took up the jewelry industry and located at Kewaunee, where he
remained until he came to Manitowoc a half century ago. Here he engaged
in the farm implement business and then was employed by the Wagner
Hardware store until it burned. After the fire he took a position with
the American Seating company and was employed by them until his death.
In 1878 Mr. Barta was married to Miss Catherine Krainik, the widow who
with six children, survive to mourn his death. They are Mrs. Joseph
Kaiser, Mrs. George M. Fechter and Emil of this city, Mrs. Sam Lewis of
Chicago, Mrs. Harry Simons and Fred Barta of Lodi. Deceased was a member
of the Bohemian society, C.S.P.S.
