Jacob Clausen Barrie
Birth 22 May 1847 in Sannidal, Telemark, Norway
Death 29 Jun 1918 in Manitowoc, Manitowoc, Wisconsin

ATTENDS CHURCH IN THE MORING, PASSES AWAY IN EVENINGDeath of Jacob Barrie, Well
Known Resident is Sudden and Unexpected Sudden and unexpected was the death of
Jacob C. Barrie, well known resident of the city and one of the oldest
employees of the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co., who passed away at his home on N.
Ninth street at 6 o'clock Sunday evening after a short illness due to acute
indigestion.
Mr. Barrie had been at his work Saturday and yesterday morning attended serviced
at the Presbyterian church of which he was a
member. He appeared in his usual health and spirits. During the afternoon while
friends were calling Mr. Barrie stepped to the
porch for a few seconds, and when he returned to the room was forced to rest on
the couch, complaining of illness. A physician
was summoned and though Mr. Barrie was unconscious, he revived soon and was
apparently improving when he suffered another
collapse and shortly after he passed away. Mr. Barrie realized that the end was
near and left messages for his absent children.
Mr. Barrie was born in Norway, May 22, 1847 and at early age followed the seas,
sailing the ocean up to the time he was 20
when he came to the Great Lakes. He continued to sail until 1900 when he retired
and entered employ of the Shipbuilding
Co. and was foreman of the caulking department at his death. He was married in
1874 to Jennie Michelson who preceded him
in death January 7, 1918. Three sons survive Mr. Barrie, Walter of Los Angeles,
Arthur and Clyde of this city. Deceased
was a member of the Royal Arcanum and an active member of the Presbyterian
church. Funeral arrangements have not been made
pending word from his son in Los Angeles. The burial will be held from the
Presbyterian church.
