Laban Baird, 79, died Saturday at Maple Crest Sanatorium, Whitelaw. He had made
his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Luchsinger, of
707 Chicago St., Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church,
Manitowoc, the Rev. William R. Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Baird was born Jan. 27, 1886, at Oneida, son of the late Cornelius and
Margaret Hill Baird. Oct. 29, 1912, he married Hattie Smith at Oneida and the
couple came to Manitowoc in 1926. He was a shipping clerk for Aluminum Specialty
Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1956. He had played clarinet with the Legion,
Aluminum Specialty, Manitowoc Marine and Hamilton bands. His wife died in
September, 1945.
He is survived by three sons, Laban of Vulcan, Mich., and Reginald and Allen of
Manitowoc; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene Schwab and Mrs. Luchsinger of Manitowoc and
10 grandchildren. A son, Calvin, was killed in World War II and another son,
Kenneth, also preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, Ninth Street
entrance, until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and then at the church.
