JOHN L. BACON (d. 2004)

John L. Bacon, 91, of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, entered eternal
rest Friday morning, May 14, 2004, with his daughters by his side at Shady Lane
Nursing Care Center.
Private funeral services for the family were held Sunday afternoon at the Harrigan
Parkside Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Schwab officiated the burial in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc.
John was born Jan. 3, 1913, in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late John Sr. and
Mathilda Neinabor Bacon. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of
1931. He was married to his beloved Gladys Meneau on July 13, 1931, in Two Rivers.
She preceded him in death on June 25, 1971. He later married Jessie Haese Drida on
May 18, 1974, in Manitowoc. John had been employed for Medusa Cement Company for
43 years, retiring in 1978 as an analytical chemist. He had been a member of the
First Presbyterian Church. John's special interests included his two daughters,
hunting and training dogs along with being an avid Green Bay Packer football fan.
John is survived by his wife, Jessie; John's two daughters and one son-in-law:
Susan and Gerald Czekala Sr., and Barbara Bacon, both of Manitowoc; three grand-
children: Debra Holschbach, Douglas (Julie) Steeber and Daniel Steeber; two great-
grandchildren: Matthew John and Kaitlyn Holschbach; two stepdaughters: Sandra
Mitcheltree and Kay Drida; two step-grandchildren: Dennis Mitcheltree and Denise
(Tom) Keon; two step-great-grandchildren: Kelsey and Molly Keon; along with other
relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife,
Gladys Meneau and one brother, Donald Bacon.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family requests in memory of John that one
act of kindness be done.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc,
is assisting the family with arrangements.
To all Shady Lane Nursing Care Center staff, especially the nurses and caregivers
on second floor, along with the residents and their families: You are truly God's
finest and we are proud to have walked beside you. You will be remembered always.
