Margaret Gibson was born 1731 in County Down, Northern Ireland. She married Samuel Leard/Laird 1759 in County Down, Northern Ireland. Margaret emigrated from Ireland with her husband and family landing at the port of Charleston, Charleston Co., South Carolina aboard The Earl of Hillsborough, February 19, 1767.

Her husband Samuel was granted 300 acres of bounty land on February 27, 1767 based on the following: Samuel Laird 100 acre base + 50 for wife Margaret + 50 for young son John + 50 for young daughter Mary + 50 for young son Samuel = 300 acres. These numbers were based on the list of passengers arriving on the Earl of Hillsborough on the 19th of February, 1767.

Margaret died someftime after February 27, 1767 in Cedar Springs, Abbeville Co., South Carolina.
