Frank McKinley Fisher, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 27th, 2016. He battled recurring cancer and heart disease for many years before being called to his eternal home with the Lord. The son of Dewey B. Fisher and Virginia Brown Fisher, he was born in 1937 and raised with seven siblings at the family home place, less than a mile from his own future residence, within the Huckleberry community of Wythe County, Virginia. He was married to Elizabeth Evon Wright Fisher until her passing on April 25th, 2000.

He was a graduate of Carson-Newman College, decorated Army Veteran and worked with the FBI and CIA before returning to Southwest Virginia and working for the State Mental Hospital in Marion, Va., for the majority of his career. He enjoyed raising Charolais beef cattle, singing and music, good food, and seeing his children and grandchildren. He was full of good advice and humor, traits he shared with many great friends throughout his life.

He is survived by a daughter, Christa Fisher Tickle, and son-in-law, Chris Tickle, of Charlotte, N.C., a son, Bryan Frank Fisher, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Fisher, of Wytheville, Va., as well as six grandchildren: Pierson, Elora, McKinley and Grayson Tickle, of Charlotte, N.C., and Brynn Fisher and Brett Johnson of Wytheville, Va., five siblings, Dewey B. “Buddy” Fisher, Jr. and Glenthia “Glenny” Fisher of Wythe County, Va., Stanley Fisher of Wytheville, Va., Emily Fisher of Rural Retreat, Va., Sammy and Beverly Holbrook of Cedar Springs, Va., and Russell and Susan Fisher of Wytheville, Va., and many loving friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Virginia Fisher of the Huckleberry community, his wife, Elizabeth Evon Wright Fisher of the Huckleberry community, two sisters, Helen Fisher Porter of Rural Retreat, Va., and Dorothy “Dot” Hodges Fisher of Cedar Springs, Va., and a still-born daughter, Angel Fisher.

He was buried at Asbury Church Cemetery beside his wife, at a private ceremony for the family. A memorial service shall be held at Lyndsey’s Funeral Home in Rural Retreat, Va., on Saturday June 4th, 2016 at 3pm, with a visitation beforehand from 1-3pm in the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to Asbury Church (163 Asbury Church Rd., Rural Retreat, Va.) or an autism-related charity of one’s choice.
