Harry E. Schoenhut, Jr., died Tuesday, September 26, 2000. A resident of the Forest at Duke Retirement Center, Mr. Schoenhut was born in Germantown, PA. On June 12, 1921, son of the late Harry E. Schoenhut and Olga Dorfner Schoenhut. Mr. Schoenhut was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Durham, and a former member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Henderson, NC. He graduated from Penn Charter Preparatory School, Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business in Hanover, New Hampshire. He was a World War II veteran and retired in 1981 from the Navy Reserves as a Lt. Commander.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Schoenhut, one son Scott Schoenhut of Beaverdam, Va; one daughter, Stephanie Schoenhut Stringer of Stafford, Va; two step-sons, Christy Graff of Charleston, SC, and Clark Graff of Thetford, VT; a step-daughter Catherine Graff-Mitchell of Westminster, CO; and thirteen grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis O'Hare.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Forest of Duke with the Rev. Cathy Church Norman officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Elmwood Cemetery in Henderson, NC, with the Rev. Richard Brand officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association 300 Silver Cedar Ct., Chapel Hill, NC 27514 or to the charity of one's choice.
