Mr. Guy Bernard "Bunny" Deal, age 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died on Saturday, July 14, at his residence after an extended illness. Bunny enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was a deacon at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was active for several years. Thoughout his lifetime, Bunny owned and managed several businesses. He was owner/manager of Detail Mobile Homes, Robo Carwash, Burger Barn, Catherine's Bakery, Create-a-Cake Bakery, Deal's Foodland and Bunny's Restaurant. He began his cooking career at Franklin's Restaurant, which he managed. Bunny was well- known throughout the county for his delicious cooking - most notably his bear claws, ladyfingers, blueberry crunch, macaroni & cheese and Sea Island Chicken. Nobody left Bunny's house hungry. Bunny's gardens were also well-known, and he shared vegetables and fruits from his garden with everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carter Deal and Marie Franklin Lee; three brothers, Joe Deal, Wilbur Deal, and Carl Deal; and one sister, Janice Lewis.

Surviving are his wife, Sally Akins Deal; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Liz and Stacy Underwood and Lynn and Floyd Futch, all of Statesboro; sisters, Mildred Lewis and Janelle (Raybon) Anderson; and brothers, Dan Deal, Frank Deal, Mary and Donald Taylor. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Sally Marie Futch and John Underwood; and special family member, Beau Deal.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 16, from 12:30-1:30 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 1:30 at the church. Dr. Byron Twigg and Reverend Kenneth Green will be officiating. Interment will be at Brannen Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Anderson, Andy Colson, Al Deal, Danny Deal, Ronnie Deal and Jim Lewis.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 5820 Westside Road, Statesboro, GA 30458.
