Just this spring, in a rare honor, the main patient building at Zambarano was named for him. Beazley, the General Assembly declared, was "someone who has worked tirelessly to ensure continuous quality of care for all patients, and who has been and continues to be a tireless voice for the voiceless." Governor Chafee signed the legislation into law.
Frank Beazley, longtime artist, poet and champion of the disabled, was honored Wednesday by state officials and the General Assembly, which last week approved legislation renaming the main patient building at the state-run Eleanor Slater Hospital's Zambarano Unit in his honor. Beazley, 83, has lived at the Burrillville hospital for more than 45 years.
"It's one of the greatest things that's ever happened to me," said Beazley, who joined other patients and staff at the State House for Zambarano Day. "I hope it gives inspiration to a lot of other people."
Governor Chafee has signed into law the legislation renaming the main Zambarano patient facility "The Frank Beazley Building."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 26, 2012 in The Zambarano Center Chapel, Wallum Lake. His burial will follow at the Acotes Hill Cemetery, (Chepachet) Glocester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beazley's name to Patients for Progress, c/o Stephen Westerman, Zambarano Hospital, 2090 Wallum Lake, Rd. Pascoag, RI 02859
