Active and intelligent, he wrote articles for the church and for the local paper and was noted as somewhat of a historian. He lived at Claxton and died September 5, 1957, in Chattanooga Burial was at Friendship Church Cemetery.

He married April 10, 1914, in McMinn County, TN, Susie Mae Swafford, a Sunday school teacher noted for her kindness, born July 23, 1888, died October 23, 1967.
