Richard Manning Grigsby, Sr.

MINDEN, LA - Memorial services for Richard Grigsby will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday April 25, 2009 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Minden, Louisiana. Officiating will be Bro. Jerry Brannen and Bro. Bill Ichter. Visitation will be Friday April 24, 2009, 4:30-8:00 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

Mr. Grigsby was born June 24, 1936 in Minden and died April 22, 2009 in Shreveport.

After graduating from Minden High School in 1954, he joined the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. It was here where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Grigsby. They moved back to Minden and for 53 years they devoted themselves to raising their family with love and Christian values. He retired from Western Electric and was a life-long member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, and a member of the Dorcheat Masonic Lodge # 272. He was an avid baseball fan. He participated in baseball at MHS and on the Lackland Air Force team. After leaving the air force he played many years of semi-pro ball.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, parents, Billy and Arlene Grigsby.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Robin McCormack and husband Caston, of Sibley, Richard Grigsby, Jr. and wife Kirsten of Mt. Vernon, Texas.

Remembering him lovingly as "Poppa" are his grandchildren; Todd McCormack and wife Michele, Michele Brennan and husband Chris, Andrew McCormack and Melissa, Adam, Ben, and Chloe Grigsby; great-grandchildren Bailey, Caroline, and Cameron McCormack, Grace and Drew Brennan, and Rydon McCormack. He is survived by his brothers; Lemuel Grigsby and wife Joan and Randy Grigsby and wife Joyce; sister Jan Chanler and husband Billy; sister-in-law Dorrine Provost and husband Clayton of Plattsburgh, New York and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Honoring him, as pallbearers will be his grandsons Todd McCormack, Jr., Andrew McCormack, Adam Grigsby, Ben Grigsby, and Chris Brennan, and nephew Rodney Grigsby.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Michael Chanler and staff, Minden Medical Center, Promise Hospital of Bossier and Grace Home, Family and friends for their many cards, gifts, and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
