Gladys Marie Hrdlicka was born on September 16, 1920 to Edward and Faye (Lanning) Branaugh in Charles MixCounty, SD. She attended Kennedy Township Country School through the 8th grade. She was united in marriage to Clifford Hrdlicka, Sr. on February 6, 1940 and to this union 3 children were born, Donna Meiers, Clifford Hrdlicka, Jr., and Gary Hrdlicka. Gladys was very much a farm lady, from milking cows in her earlier years to helping with hog chores and tending to her chickens and garden. Cleaning chickens and making dill pickles were her specialty. Over the years, Gladys was involved in 4-H, Tops, extension club, senior citizens and very active member of the United Church of Christ, serving many different committees. She was most involved being Gary's farm hand. Her duties included moving machinery, shutting off the grain dryer and most important, making sure she had dinner made. The only real job she ever had away from home was with Larson's at the Kingswood Mink Ranch. She might have shook her head, shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes and said, "how come or why" when it came to her grandkids, but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She always did what she could for each and everyone of them. The requests were always there, homemade noodles, pumpkin pie, brownies, and rhubarb upside cake just to name a few.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Donna Meiers of Huron, SD, son, Gary (Phyllis) Hrdlicka of Armour, SD, daughter-in-law, Deanna Hrdlicka of Rock Rapids, IA, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Billie, Freddie and Tom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, parents, son, Clifford, Jr., son-in-law, LeRoy, 2 infant grandsons, 3 brothers, Bob, Charlie and James, and sister, Mae.
