Bernice Virginia Gilbert Allie, age 93, of 3311 Lindbergh Dr., Manitowoc, died
Saturday, April 13, 2003, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at The
Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc and 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc.
Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Ronald Reimer with burial
to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Bernice was born on March 24, 1910, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Carl and
Bertha Neuser Gilbert, who gifted her with a German and Norwegian heritage. She
was a lifelong resident of Manitowoc and graduated with the Lincoln High School
Class of 1927. Bernice was an assistant and x-ray technician in the office of Dr.
J.W. Steckbauer from 1927 to 1937. She married Claude P. Allie on October 28, 1935.
The couple celebrated 61 years of married life together, before Claude's death on
November 1, 1996. Bernice was a founding member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and
a member of the Christian Mother's Altar Society for seventy years. She was a past
member of the Manitowoc Catholic Women's Club, Knights of Columbus Auxillary, the
Opti-Mrs. Club, the Elks Auxiliary and she had been active in the volunteer services
program of the Manitowoc Health Care Center.
Bernice's hobbies include bridge, having enjoyed membership in the same bridge club
for 54 years. She also was an enthusiastic antique collector and served on numerous
committees for the Annual Manitowoc Antique Show.
Bernice is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Christopher Claude and Christine
Allie, Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law: Claudette and Robert De brey,
Minneapolis, Minn., and Karen and William Morrison, Kenilworth, Ill.; eight grand-
children: Stacey Culligan and her husband Matthew, Omaha, Neb., Peter and Alex Allie,
Manitowoc, Andre' De brey, Michele Walsh and her husband Gregory, Marc De brey and
his wife Karen, all of Minneapolis, Minn., Carrie Morrison, Kenilworth, Ill., Brian
Morrison, Boston, MA.; five great grandchildren: Nadia Walsh; Jennifer, Michael and
Johnathon De brey; and Christian De brey. In addition to her parents and her husband,
Bernice was preceded in death by her only sibling, Ralph Gilbert.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday (TONIGHT),
April 14, 2003, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. A rosary service will be
led by Deacon William Klein at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made in Bernice's name to
Roncalli High School or St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc.
