DAUGHTER'S DEATH HASTENS FATHER'S END
Albert Allen, Vet Railroad Engineer, Follows Daughter to Grave in Less Than
Week.
Albert Allen, for many years a resident of the city, passed away at Neenah last
evening after a lingering illness of more than a year. It is believed his end
was hastened by the shock he suffered less than a week ago when his daughter,
Lillian Allen, was summoned. Mr. Allen had been in poor health and a daughter,
Mrs. E.W. Pettingill, took him to her home at Neenah following the death of his
daughter, hoping the change would be to his advantage. He failed rapidly,
however, and the end came somewhat expectedly.
Funeral from Son's Home
The body was brought to the city today and taken to the home of Mr. Allen's son,
Charles Allen, at 406 St. Clair street, from where funeral services will be held
tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Weber in charge and burial will take
place at Evergren (sic).
Mr. Allen was born in Yorkshire, N.Y., on Nov. 3, 1858 (sic), and came to
Wisconsin when a young man, accepting a railroad position, which vocation he
followed until ten years ago when he was retired on pension when Mrs. Allen, who
suffered ill health, necessitated his constant attention and companionship. Mrs.
Allen passed away in 1917.
At times the Allen family had lived at Menasha, Waukesha, Oshkosh and Greenleaf,
and had made this city their home for more than 35 years.
Surviving are two sons, Edward and Charles of this city, a daughter, Mrs.
Petingill(sic), of Neenah, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
