MARK S. HUNTER FUNERAL DECEMBER 27

Mark S. Hunter, 17, was found dead on Friday (Dec 24, 1971) at approximately 2 p.m. by Edward Agge and son, Ronnie, who were hunting north of Chesterville. Arthur Police Chief Bruce Thomsen was notified by Mr. Agge and he notified the Douglas County sheriff and coroner.
Hunter had been reported missing by his mother Dec 22. Local police put the information out to the police at the time and on Dec 23 also.
The Douglas County sheriff's office said death apparently resulted from carbon monoxide poisoning as a vacuum cleaner hose had been fitted over the exhaust pipe and the other end entered the car where a rear window had been lowered. The ignition key was on and the gas tank was empty.
Mark was born May 24, 1954 in Decatur, son of Joseph and Mary Rita Ashley Hunter. He is survived by his mother of Arthur and his father of Arcola, three brothers Tracy, Jeffrey and Todd, all at home, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Ashley of Arthur; and paternal grandmother, Grace Hunter of Allerton.
Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Arcola, with Rev. Wesley Groff officiating, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Plummer. The Fleming Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Burial was in the Arthur Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike, Terry and Marty Bernard, Greg Fulton, Richard Ingram, and Terry Clark.
