Mr. Earl Byron Adams, 103, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., formerly of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Charlotte, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the home of his daughter in Kill Devil Hills.

He was the husband of Mabel Alice Carlson Adams, who died Nov. 3, 1999. They were married for 71 years.

Born Aug. 25, 1896, in Logan, Iowa, he was a son of the late Pat and Emma Putnum Adams.

Mr. Adams graduated from Logan High School in 1915 and joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War I.

Following the war he worked for Ford Motor Co. and Diamond Crystal Salt, where he retired in 1961 as a district sales manager in Charlotte.

Mr. Adams was an active member of Presbyterian churches in Charlotte and Roanoke Rapids.

He was an avid sports fan, having played football and baseball, and was a bowler.

Surviving are two daughters, Bette Bennett and husband Gene of Thurmont, and Marilyn Hinson and husband Reid of Kill Devil Hills; three grandchildren, Jeanenne Eckert and husband Dennis of Adamstown, Diana Christy of Roanoke Rapids, and Deborah Beddingfield and husband Scott of Brentwood, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren, Kenneth Christy, Ashley Christy and Byron Beddingfield.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Adams.

There will be no calling at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the graveside in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Those wishing to attend should assemble at the main gate of the cemetery. The Rev. David McDonald, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Roanoke Rapids, will officiate.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Dare Home Health Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, N.C. 27954.
