— NORTHUMBERLAND — Edward A. Steele, 90, formerly of 130 S. Front St., Sunbury, died early Friday morning, July 13, 2012, at Notthingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born Dec. 9, 1921, a son of the late Raymond S. and Margaret S. (Gelnett) Steele. He married the love of his life, Minnie A. Rhodes on May 14, 1947. Her death on Jan. 1, 2004, broke a marital union of 56 years.
He was educated in the Sunbury Schools. Ed was a veteran of the Army from 1942 to 1946.
He was formerly employed by Champ Hats, Sunbury, and retired from Sunbury Textile Mills.
Ed attended Otterbein United Methodist Church, Sunbury.
Ed was an avid Phillies fan, and he loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. Going to Knoebels Grove and Country Cupboard were his favorite outings with his family.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary E. and Vic Shambach of Selinsgrove, and Susie A. and Barry Gearhart of Northumberland; three grandchildren and spouses, Sherry A. and Rich Spriggle, Jennifer L. and Larry Aucker, Donna L. Shambach; six great-grandchildren, Venessa Schaffner, Justin Troutman, Alexis and Austin Aucker, Richie and Garrett Spriggle.
He will be missed so much by all.
The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by eight sisters, Mary Donachy, Carrie Baker, Mabel Ernest, Anna Jauss, Gladys Hoover, Dorothy Steffen, and Pauline and Hazel Steele; and four brothers, George, Charles, Donald and Russell Steele.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Gunter officiating.
Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
