The last surviving member of a famous old B.C. seafaring family, Mrs. Lillian Turner, 1546 W. 12th, Vancouver has died at 79. She died on Oct 13, 1959, having lived in Vancouver for 71 years. Mrs. Turner was the sister of five prominent steamboat skippers, the late Captains John, Charles, George, Will and Jim Cates, who came here in the early days from Nova Scotia, where she was born on May 1, 1880. Mrs. Turner became a partner with her brother, Capt. J.A. Cates, in the ownership and management of the Terminal Steam Navigation Co., owning such pioneer steamers as the "Britannia", "Bowena" and "Ballena". She is survived by her son, Lloyd and 4 grandchildren. Her husband, Robert K. Turner, who was also in the shipping business here, died in 1918. Requiem mass will be celebrated today at 9 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church by Rev. Lewis R. Keighly. Burial will be at Forest Lawn.
